Hygiapoème [écouter la montagne]
Paravent series - Biennial of Tangible Images
Images from my collection of old postcards are printed on office partitions. They seem to be pierced by 17 holes, following the pattern of hyggiaphones* that amplify speech, and pass through their support. The Paravent series aims to give meaning and sound to form: words across bridges, woods and mountains, beckoning to the landscape. Am I being spoken to behind the screen ? Does art speak to you ? What do you hear ? The stream, the pines, the sea ? Inaccessible peaks ?
Each screen generates an I that opens up to the other, between sources of emissions and sources of perceptions. The waves vibrate with potential. * The Hygiaphone, a protective device with a vibrating membrane that amplifies sound at public counters - named after Hygie, goddess of health, cleanliness and hygiene - was designed following the 1945 influenza epidemic in France. It claimed many victims among the population and infected a large number of SNCF sales agents, who asked their engineers to invent a system enabling them to see, hear and protect its staff.
