September 2010: Carne, 60 artists in 17 venues, quartier de la Villette, Paris 19th arrondissement
Concept: Julie Navarro with the support of curators Anne-Marie Jeannou and Sarah Fossat
CARNE presents art installations in butcheries, shops and restaurants associated with the meat trade, located in part of the former Abattoirs de La Villette area. In this multicultural district steeped in history, the Parcours CARNE revealed the meat-processing tradition that has left its mark on the history of the 19th arrondissement. The artists, selected following a call for projects, questioned, in a singular and varied way, the ancient gesture of transforming livestock into meat, and the process of transforming a material into food, grasped in a dual spiritual and physical sense. Conveying images, ideas and emotions, the visual artists engaged in a dialogue with the evocative power of flesh and its transformations. They offered us a current testimony to the mystery of the entrails and its drifts.
